Q48 (80th) V49(97th percentile) 750(98th percentile)!!!

Hi Guys,

I was reading http://www.f1gmat.com/gmat-750-tips-experience
blog and was surprised to find this score -
Q48 (80th percentile)
V49(97th percentile)
750(98th percentile)!!!

How is it possible to get 750(98th percentile) when you got only 80th percentile on verbal?

TIA.

The total score is not based on an average of the percentiles (it have never been based on the percentiles at all, actually). The total score is based on the combination of the two subscores. That never changes, though the percentiles can (and do) change from year to year.

Q48 is almost the top quant score you can achieve - the highest score in a section is 51. So even though that represents only the 80th percentile on quant (because the pool of test takers today is much stronger on quant than the pool used to be 10 years ago), it is still quite a high score. Couple that with an amazingly high V49 and you get an excellent total score.
