Present Participle Modifiers - Does the tense need to match?

by ray.liu030 Mon Mar 03, 2014 4:39 am

Hi all,

The use of ",+ing" modifier has been well discussed here. I have come up with the following confusion when taking the Prep:

In the strategy guide, we have seen examples:

Crime has recently decreased in our neighbourhood, leading to a rise in property values.

Scientists have found high levels of iridium in certain geological formations around the world, suggesting the cataclysmic impact of a meteor millions of years ago.

Option E of the following famous question from GMAT Prep, however, made me confused:

Neuroscientists have amassed, over...,...knowledge about...., now drawing solid conclusions.....

Someone told me the reason why it is wrong is that the ing participle is not supposed to be attached to a present perfect sentence. Does this conflict with the strategy guild or I am missing something here.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Ray

__ing modifiers can be attached to a sentence in any tense whatsoever.

"Now drawing" is wrong because the timeframe doesn't make sense, as has been explained here:

Also, this post is in the wrong folder. GMAT Prep problems should be posted in the GMAT Prep folder.
Thanks.
