Good question! I host a free session once a month to talk about how to decide which test to take. The next one is on Sunday, July 13th at 9p eastern. You can sign up on our website, if you'd like to join the session.

First, research the schools to which you plan to apply. Most business schools accept both tests, but some accept only the GMAT - so if you want to apply to one that accepts only the GMAT, then your decision is made.

If all the schools accept both tests, then you'll need to decide which to take. In that case, I recommend learning just the basics for each test: the different question types and how to answer them. Don't worry about learning all of the math or anything like that. Take two practice tests (one of each) and compare the results.

The two tests have different scoring scales, so you'll want to look at the percentiles. If one test is clearly better in both quant and verbal, then take that one.

If one test is better on one metric but the other test is better on the other, then look at your strengths and weaknesses and decide which weaknesses you think will be easier for you to improve. Study for that test.
