prefer to /prefer over

"prefer to" or "prefer over" --- if you can let me know the correct usage for them.

As far as I know, the idiom used in GMAT problems is 'prefer X to Y'; 'prefer X over Y' is incorrect. That said, I'd love to see any examples you have.
