Re: Are x and y both positive? 1) 2x - 2y = 1, 2) x/y > 1

Question can be written as : is x, y >0
1. give x-y =1/2
2. gives
x >y if y>0
x <y if y <0

1. tells x is to the right of y on number line i.e. x>y
2. tells x and y are of the same sign and x>y if both are positive or x <y if both are negative

Combining 1&2--> x>y and x,y>0

think about the step that gets you from the original statement (x/y > 1) to this version.

now, think about when you can actually perform that step. (i.e., "I can only do that to both sides if I know that ______________").

Thanks! Again Ron :)
