p a prime number

by anoo.anand Sun Sep 20, 2009 2:48 pm

Q>

Is the prime number p equal to 37 ?

1) p = n^2 + 1
2) p^2 is greater than 200.

question is to evaluate the second option , should we square and see all the prime numbers till say 100 ?

any shorter method ?

You dont need to.

St2 says p^2 > 200

Just to estimate you know p>15 becuase 15^2 = 225.
so p can be 17, 19, 23, ...37, .... And hence insufficent.

Assume you know the rest , Answer will E.

nicely done.

is this really a GMATPREP question? it doesn't seem like one.
