OG question difficulty level

by daniel.lha Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:45 am

Just a quick on the 3 OGs. I know the questions are generally ordered from easy to hard in each section, but I am curious to know (from the instructors' perspectives) if any of these questions contained in the OGs are really at the 700+ level of difficulty. I ask because I would like to know if I am practicing on sufficiently hard practice questions or if they are indeed slightly easier than what I will get on test day, and thus I am concerned that I might be unprepared slightly come test day.

If there are 700+ difficulty questions in the OGs, is there any way to help identify them (aside from just going to back of each section)? If there are not many 700+ difficulty questions in the books, then where can I go to get really hard questions to practice with? Thanks for any advice!

Yes, the highest-numbered questions are definitely 700+. I don't have a particular number to give you, but the last 20-30 (at least) in each section are hard.

You can also try GMAT Focus for some additional official quant questions. (There is a fee for it.) GMAT Focus is adaptive, so the difficulty levels you get will depend upon how well you're doing - so if you're not scoring that highly already, you'll be given lower level problems.

Ditto GMATPrep - if you've already used one, you can start re-taking and just looking for new questions, but because the test is adaptive, you'll only see what you "earn."

Other than that, you'll need to look to test prep company materials if you want to specifically identify harder questions.
