Are the specialized guides more advanced? Any suggestions on which to use first?

No, they're not more advanced. I would say that the difficulty levels are roughly similar for Verbal 2nd Edition vs. OG12. For quant, there's a debate: some people feel that Quant 2nd Edition is easier than OG12, and some people think the two are about the same. (I think it really depends upon which topics we're talking about!)

Still, on the chance that Q2E really is a little easier, go ahead and use that one first, just in case. (Generally, you want to start with easier material and work your way up.)

Alternatively, you can go back and forth between the two, doing the lower-numbered questions first and the higher-numbered questions later. (The quant questions are presented in rough order of difficulty.)
