You'll have to contact Pearson directly in order to find out how to handle this.

Go here:
http://www.mba.com/us/service/contact-us.aspx

If you remember, come back here and tell us what they say; other students may be in the same situation. Thanks!

I contacted the Pearson India helpline and they said last is not an issue. They told me to just put a dot in the last name field.

I have another question. I have been told by some friends that people without a last name have to use FNU(first name unavailable) as their first name and their first name(Mohit in my case) as their last name for getting visa. So I will be FNU MOHIT in my visa. I wanted to know if it is acceptable in usa like say if I wanted to get a driving licence in future.

Also which name will be used in my degree because I don't really want my degree to say FNU MOHIT because all my past certificates say just MOHIT.

Thanks for letting us know.

I don't know what the government requirements are for a visa or for official identification. You'll have to research for whatever country (or countries) you're thinking about.

For your diploma, I would imagine that the school would work with you to develop a solution acceptable to everyone. If you are looking to work / live in the US, then you may want to consider choosing and registering a last name for yourself, as you may have difficulties with various other things as well (credit cards, utility accounts for electricity, etc, even obtaining a social security number, which is necessary in order to work in the US).

An immigration lawyer may have better ideas for you than I do!

If you are taking it in your city the best bet would be to contact the test centre directly.

I think you should consult with the concern authorities of your country and they can guide you on this matter properly.

Sorry for the late reply. I finally took my GMAT. I had put a dot(period) in the surname field and i took the GMAT. Surname is not really an issue because the only requirement for GMAT is that the name on the application form matches the one on your passport field by field. I hope i have made it clear but if there are still some queries the i will be happy to reply.

Also i don't know if lack of surname is going to be a problem in America. I will be thankful for some info if anyone has any idea.

Thanks,
Mohit

Thanks, Mohit.

If anyone is in this situation, I do think it's a good idea to call Pearson directly and ask them what to do before you sign up for the test. No reason to make things more stressful for yourself.

Mohit, I think things will be easier for you in the US if you do have a surname. You would want that to be on your official papers (visa, driver's license, etc), though, so that would be something you'd need to do in your home country. Is there a surname that you would like to have and could you go through the necessary legal channels to add it to your name? That way, you will be able to choose your own name instead of having to use FNU Mohit. :)
