New "IR Prep Tool" from GMAC

by SanjayG915 Thu Aug 14, 2014 1:21 pm

Hello, GMAC recently released more practice Q's for IR in an "IR Prep Tool" that you can buy for $19.99 (48 questions).

Has anyone been able to figure out how the "Session Score" that you get after completing a set of questions connects to an actual IR score?

They state that the "Session Score" is a combination of:
(1) Questions answered correctly
(2) Difficulty of said questions, and
(3) Time it took you to answer each question relative to how long it took actual test takers (since these are questions that have been given on official exams).

So, the session score is more nuanced than just "% that you got right." However, it's unclear how a given score relates to a projected IR score on the regular scale of 8.

The answer may be that the test makers don't intend to help us make that link, but I'm curious if anyone has explored this.

What is the scoring scale for this? I.e., what's the range of numerical values for a "session score"?

Unfortunately, it's not clear (nothing on the official website or inside the online question pack). I'd guess a scale of 100. This is probably so new, there's no correlation. Perhaps the test makers don't even have a correlation yet: if they do, they're not telling. Oh well, no sweat.

Hmmmmm. Very interesting.

I guess it's something that we'll eventually play around with... at some point... sometime.
(:

People do like numbers. A lot. Even when they mean nothing in particular.

I believe you should consider session score as percentile and round off the percentile you got to the closest IR score.

No. It might be worth a call to the GMAT if you're particularly anxious about this information, since it's their product. We would certainly appreciate any insight you can provide once you've spoken with them.
