Need study plan evaluation

by asharma8080 Wed Oct 24, 2012 12:44 am

Hello

I took the course back in February. I am scheduled to retake the GMAT on Nov 18th. Could Stacey or Ron please
recommend a study plan I should follow for the next 4 weeks.

Here is what I have for myself (for this week at least):
- Read the MGMAT books on these weaknesses, do the action problems, do ALL the OG problems on these weak areas and then also redo the problems.

My official GMAT scores are:
10/6/2012 - 620 (q40 v35) IR 5 AWA 6
8/29/2012 - 630 (q41 v35) IR 7 AWA 6

My MGMAT scores were:
10/6/2012 - 620 (q40 v35) - (OFFICIAL GMAT)
9/29/2012 - 610 (q44 v33)
9/21/2012 - 650 (q40 v38)
9/16/2012 - 660 (q44 v36)
8/29/2012 - 630 (q41 v35 ) - (OFFICIAL GMAT)
8/25/2012 - 630 (q43 v35)
8/5/2012 - 700 (q42 v42)
7/29/2012 - 620 (q41 v34)
7/4/2012 - 640 (q43 v34)
5/3/2012 - 550 (q36 v30)

Target is 700.

My weakness areas (<50 %) per my last 5 manhattan gmat tests are:
Inequalities (29%)
Combinatorics (25%)
Rates & Work (33%)
Overlapping Sets (38%)
Ratios (40%)
Percents (46%)

Have you already done a PEA? (Post Exam Assessment)

Anyone who took our course or one of our Guided Self-Study packages is eligible for a free Post-Exam Assessment (if you haven't done it already). This is a phone call with an instructor to figure out what went wrong and come up with a plan to re-take the test. You'll get much better feedback than you will on the forums because the instructor will actually take a look at your exams directly - we don't do that on the forums. :)

If you haven't already done a PEA, please send (right now!) an email to studentservices@manhattangmat.com and request the Post-Exam Assessment.

If you've already done that (or if you'd also like to continue to get advice here), then I'd like to get some more detailed data on your strengths and weaknesses in order to advise you. Use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us the results of your analysis and what you think you should do based on that analysis. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)

On multiple occasions on your practice tests, your quant or verbal scores jumped up (up to 44 on quant, up to 42 on verbal), but then dropped back down again. Why? What's different on the higher vs. lower tests?

A lot of times, stamina is a factor - did you take all tests under 100% official conditions, including essay and IR?

Timing is also a big factor - did that cause the scoring fluctuations?

Timing resources:

Careless errors can also be a major factor in score fluctuations.

Finally, while you wait for your PEA or my next response, read this section on How To Learn to make sure that you're actually learning in an effective way:
