Need help to improve my score

by hi_pol Thu Oct 11, 2012 2:05 am

I just took my 2nd GMAT test last week and I got lower score than the first one. 1st --- 560 (Q47,V21), 2nd --- (Q47,V17).
Before I took the 2nd test, I scored 610,620 and 630 (V30-34 in all three) on MGMAT CAT II, III and IV, respectively. Also, in GMAT prep i got 690 and 710. GMATprep score might be a bit inflated since I recalled some questions from my training. But I dont think the score would be this bad in real test. I know im weak on verbal and trying so hard to improve it.
During an exam, I hav problems with SC questions as I can cut choices to two candidates but cannot decide which is the correct one.
I read the whole sets of MGMAT books, powerscore CR and some Kaplan books.
I think I know almost every rules of SC stated by MGMAT, but dunno why I could not score well.
My target is above 650 and I plan to retake it again next month.
Now my plan is to boost my Quant to arnd 50 and target verbal at above 30.
Any of u hav any recommedation on how to improve the verbal part... pls help... quiet desperate now.

I'm sorry that you had a disappointing test experience. There are multiple reasons why you may have experienced a score drop on the real test; if we can figure out why this happened, then we'll know what to do in order to try to prevent it from happening again.

Please read this, do the analysis described, and reply again here:

If you do have timing problems (most people do), read these two articles and start doing what they say:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... to-win-it/
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... nt-part-1/

You mention SC in particular. A lot of students struggle with choices that test meaning - have you learned how to assess and deal with potential meaning issues? You mention feeling like you know all of the rules, but meaning is a separate issue.

Meaning questions can also be more difficult to handle because the answer choices don't "split" as easily as on questions that test other things. Read this:

Do you think the above might be contributing to your difficulties with SC?
