Need help on moving from 700 to 740-750

by krutiks511 Sat Sep 19, 2015 2:36 pm

Hi,I wrote my GMAT yesterday and scored a 700.
My score break up is as follows-
IR:7
Q:48
V:37
I need advice on how to boost my scores up to a 740-750 level in my next attempt(within a month).
If the team requires any more information do let me know.

Great job! Out of curiosity, why are you going for 740-750? No school requires a score that high. Or do you want something closer to the average for the top 5 schools (720-ish) and are giving yourself a little leeway in case you don't quite get to your goal?

Okay, we need to know what study materials you have.

We also need to know how you've been studying so far. In particular, read these two articles:
http://tinyurl.com/executivereasoning
http://tinyurl.com/2ndlevelofgmat

and tell us how what you've been doing does and doesn't match up with that and how you may need to change your approach accordingly.

Then, use the below to analyze your most recent MPrep CATs (this should take you a minimum of 1 hour):
http://tinyurl.com/analyzeyourcats

Based on all of that, figure out your strengths and weaknesses as well as any ideas you have for what you think you should do. Then come back here and tell us; we'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Your analysis should include a discussion of your buckets - you'll understand what that means when you read the last article. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)

Finally, I just have to mention: 740/750 is a very high goal - one month is not very much time to lift to that level. It may seem like "only" 40-50 points, but it's not the same as moving from 650 to 700. The higher you go, the harder it gets to go even higher. I'm not saying it can't be done in 1 month, but I think the average would probably be longer (for those people who do actually end up getting to that level). Just FYI.

HI,
I come from an over represented group-Indian male engineer.
I have 2.5 yrs of work ex at JP Morgan.TO be competitive I feel that I should be atleast 30-40 points above the average to fill the gap of work exp. and to overcome the category disadvantages. That's why I feel 740 will be a good score for schools having a 690-700 average.

I see - the overrepresented category is a good reason. (Just FYI that your GMAT score won't compensate for any gaps in work experience - those are different measurements / requirements.)

In order to advise you further, I'm going to need your responses to the other questions that I asked in my last post (basically everything from the second paragraph to the second-to-last paragraph).
