Need consulting regarding my prep options

by BrandonB866 Tue Feb 16, 2016 10:22 pm

Hello,

I have taken the GMAT three times now, the most recent one was on February 16th, 2016. I purchased the 5th edition set two years ago, and studied last summer for my first attempt. It didn't go as expected, due to time constraints, so I decided to retake the test in January and purchased the 6th edition set thinking those books would be different (they weren't too different but they definitely helped on some topics).

My second attempt was significantly better than the first, however my quantitative score didn't increase (Q33, 29-percentile). After my second attempt I studied for another three weeks. On my third attempt (which was today), my math score increased by one point to a 34. :(

Can I speak to someone at Manhattan Prep, either a instructor or staff member about my study plan? I am planning on taking it a fourth time (haven't chosen a date but it will be near March 15th) and couldn't find any in-person classes until after the 15th. I noticed Ian Jorgeson is teaching classes in Dallas starting March 15th, however I couldn't find his contact information for further questions.

I will be reevaluating my plan this week, and am willing to use ManhattanPrep again (because you're the best) on my fourth time around for an online course, in person course, private tutoring, or going through the books like I have before.

Please feel free to reply to this forum post or private message me for further contact information.

Hi! Someone from our student services team told me that you have connected and are discussing the various options.

The one thing I'll add to the discussion: the timeframes you have mentioned are quite short. You said that you studied for 3 weeks between tests 2 and 3, and that you plan to take test 4 around March 15th, which is less than 4 weeks from now. You don't mention your goal scores or your overall scores from your earlier tests.

It depends on how much you're trying to increase, of course, but most people do need longer than a few weeks in order to see a significant score increase. Our classes run 9 weeks, and we generally recommend that people take at least 2-3 weeks after the class is over for a comprehensive review before taking the real test. Tutoring allows you to work at your own pace / accelerate somewhat if desired - but of course that's a lot more expensive than taking a class.

Just something to think about. Let us know if you want to discuss anything else!
