Need Advise on Studying for Retake

by amrita.randhawa13 Sun Sep 30, 2012 2:48 pm

Hi MGMAT,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am looking for help in studying for GMAT. I went through a lot of threads on this forum that talk about study strategies. However, all that information was pretty overwhelming for me; so, I am pretty unsure about the resources I should use moving forward.
I recently gave GMAT with less than 2 weeks prep. I scored 560 (Q38, V35). I want to retake this test by first week of December 2012 and wanted to know how should I go about it. I need atleast 700 (that's the minimum).
I figured out that I was weak at most of the topics, in both verbal and quant and if required, I have no issues going back to the basics again.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
A

Welcome to the forums!

Start here:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... an-part-1/

That will help you figure out how to set up a study plan for yourself and also how to learn in an efficient and effective manner. (Do also think about whether you want to study on your own or take a class.) There are a number of other articles linked in the above article; follow the links and read those, too. Try not to read everything in one day - you'll overwhelm yourself again. :)

Next (after you do the above), I'd like to get some more detailed data on your strengths and weaknesses in order to advise you. I can tell from the scores you gave me that you're stronger in verbal, but I need more detail. Use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us the results of your analysis and what you think you should do based on that analysis. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)
