mgmat verbal score interpretation

by mg Sat Nov 22, 2008 4:01 pm

When I took my MGMAT, I scored 35 on verbal. I thought the verbal was going really well. I got a 35, which I believe is not so bad. Is it?

I got 17 incorrect on the verbal in all and among the first 11 questions, 7 were incorrect.

Does this demonstrate potential for scoring higher on the real test?

35 on verbal is about the 74th percentile - so it's a good score, but there's also room for improvement. (FYI: the percentile scales are different for quant and verbal - on quant, a 35 is only about the 42nd percentile - so, big difference.)

What you score on any given practice test indicates the potential for scoring in that same range on the official test. If you study more and raise your ability, then you may score higher on the real test - but it depends on the work you do! It's not usually the case that someone scores much higher on the official test than s/he did on the most recent practice test(s) before the official test - not unless a whole lot of work is taking place in between the two.

But if you have a good quality study plan and know how you should be analyzing yourself and the test, then sure - you have the potential to improve!
