MGMAT Sentence Correction Strategy guide

by cvsmech Wed Sep 14, 2011 10:36 am

Please forgive me if this has been asked here before.

I'm going through the MGMAT strategy guide and have finished all the chapters prior to the advanced section.

Question: Is it necessary to study the advanced sections or should I just skip over or maybe skim through it? Reason I'm asking this is because I find most of the stuff in the advanced sections more than what one might need for GMAT SC.

Needless to say that I'd like to get all the SC questions right on the GMAT.

Answers would be highly appreciated.

Depends on your score goal. :)

If you want to score up to about the 70th percentile on verbal alone, then you can probably get away with ignoring the advanced chapters. If you want to score up to about the 85th or so percentile, then you should do the advanced chapters for whatever areas are your strengths (though you may want to do modifiers no matter what, because they're so frequently tested).

If you want to score above the 90th percentile, you've gotta study it all. You won't see every last thing on the test, of course, but you have to be prepared for anything.

Note that the percentile numbers I'm giving are for verbal ALONE. It's possibly to score in the 90th percentile overall (700) while scoring at a lower percentile for verbal (or quant) alone.
