Even though it requires much work
The answer says that the revised version eliminates the word "may", so it changes the meaning. The revised sentence is incorrect.
But the two sentences below have a different meaning. Why this is ok?

4. She is the most dedicated gardener on the block, watering the more than 50 plants in her yard every day.
watering more than the 50 plants in her yard every day.

1. I agree with you. Simply a change of meaning (so long as the meaning is logical) is not enough to eliminate an answer choice on SC. We actually changed this in the latest edition of the SC Strategy Guide.
