Manhattan SC - 2 versions

by adu_padu Wed Dec 31, 2008 2:23 pm

I have 2 versions of Mahattan SC guide (2005 and 2008) version. The 2008 version is almost double the size of 2005, and contains too much detail. I wanted to know if such in-depth knowledge of grammar is required to ace sentence correction questions? Shouldn't all the stuff in the 2005 version suffice?

I don't mind reading through 200+ pages, but absorbing all of it and applying it is much tougher than 120 or so pages. And i don't know if that much effort would be justified for 14 of the 41 questions in verbal. Wouldn't I be better off putting time in other verbal and quant sections?

some background: English is not my native language, but I did complete my university from a canadian university, so sub-consciously I think I know some, if not most, of the basics.

A large portion of the increase comes from the expanded Idioms glossary. We went over all of the published GMAT problems and extracted the idioms that were used there. As you are a non-native speaker, you may want to spend some time on that section. Otherwise, you can choose whichever book you like. The new book does have more detail, so if you have the time I would recommend it. However, plenty of students have scored well using the older book as their guide. We strive to increase the quality of our books with each update; however, this does not mean the old material is defunct.
