Low IR on GMAT in second attempt. Retake?

by titan31 Tue Feb 04, 2014 11:47 am

Hi,
I wrote GMAT twice this year. Here are the scores:
GMAT-1:
Q51 (97%ile) V31 (60%ile) AWA6.0 (91%ile) IR5 (52%ile) Overall 690 (87%ile)

GMAT-2:
Q50 (89%ile) V36 (80%ile) AWA6.0 (Expected) IR4 (37%ile) Overall 710 (92%ile)

Do I need to retake? I am concerned about my IR score. If there is any other I thing I should be worrying about right now, please guide me....

Background: Indian / Male / Software Product R&D / Age 25
Undergraduate GPA: 8.64/10

Schools: Not decided.. But will not be looking at schools ranked below 15..

Please help.

I'll give you my opinion, but you should talk to an admissions consultant to get better advice!

If you are applying this year, then a 5 should be fine for the schools. If you are not applying for a few years, I can't predict whether a 5 will still be fine or whether they will be looking for higher scores. I do feel confident that Q+V will still be much more important than IR for at least the next several years.

Longer-term, if you will be looking for jobs in consulting or banking, they *might* start using IR scores. They already use GMAT (Q+V) scores, and my guess is that even when they start to use IR scores, those scores will still be less important (for a while) than Q+V. Same thing as the schools.

But ask an admissions consultant to see what they think!
