Just completed 1st class in MGMAT @ Irvine Winter

by justinbaribault Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:52 am

I cannot believe how much math material I have forgotten. I am completing my first weeks homework assignments and I've already pulled out what hair I have left.
I feel as if I need to enroll in four years of HS math just to bring myself up to par with the concepts for the first weeks homework.
Any study groups in Irvine that I can attend?
Any suggestions what can be done to remove the mountains of rust on my brain?

It's going to take a little while to ease back into the study routine again - it's like that for everyone. :)

A couple of suggestions:
1) make some friends in class, exchange contact info, and set up study groups; these students are on the same study schedule as you, so that can really help
2) post your question in the Study Groups folder on this forum to try to find others with whom to study
3) set up a steady schedule and stick to it - 2 hours a day most days of the week (give yourself a day off though!)
4) try to do little things to get your mind back into school / study / math mode. When you're out to dinner, calculate 15%, 20% and 18% of the bill, just to test yourself out. When you're reading the paper, look for grammatical errors. When you're sitting in that boring meeting at work, jot down as many geometry formulas as you can remember.
5) don't give up. It's going to be a grind at first until your mind gets used to this again, but it will get easier. :)

Good luck!
