Yes, that's true. We try to keep a lid on it as much as we can (for our own materials), as do other companies, but we'll never completely stop it, unfortunately.
For those who are tempted to use such materials, I'll just say two things:
(1) Be very careful about sources; I have seen things billed as "official" materials that weren't or that were riddled with transcription errors.
(2) Part of being a good business person is being ethical. Would you be okay with your customers stealing your own products and services? Are you willing to use something illegally to avoid paying $50 or $100, knowing that if enough people do this, these companies will eventually go out of business and future students won't be able to take advantage of the good research and materials development that we can afford to do now?
(And, no, I do not personally take advantage of such things in any industry. I have never even downloaded a song illegally. I practice what I preach. :)
