Is it true that the first few questions are more important?

by vinay2 Sat Sep 11, 2010 2:47 pm

Looks like the strategy described here: http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/02/ ... case-study assumes that we GMAT doesnt count the questions at the end as much as the questions at the start.

If all are equally important, then really the above strategy can screw your timing on the questions at the end. Verbal questions would get 80 seconds per question!

Can someone confirm please. Kaplan claims that their research has found the first few questions are definitely not weighted more than the ones at the end.

Nope, that's a myth. Log into your student center and read your copy of your e-book The GMAT Uncovered. It talks about the scoring and why the whole "early questions are more important" thing is a myth.

If you're looking for a lower level score (below 650), then you can afford to spend a LITTLE more time on early questions and guess randomly on a FEW at the end. But if you're going for a 650+, the penalty at the end for running out of time will kill you. Read the e-book; it explains why. :)
