"is" and "are" at the end of sentence - in GMAT

by sw001 Wed Dec 16, 2015 5:17 pm

Dear Instructors,

Apples are more healthy to eat than grapes are.
Jogging is more healthy exercise for individuals than walking is.

I believe these sentences are grammatically correct - But, are there any official correct answers of sentences that end in "is", "are" - in GMAT?

Thank you!

i'm going to assume that your question is about these kinds of verbs in general, and not literally about the two verbs 'is' and 'are'.

ok, so, you know what's the best thing about questions like this one?
you can almost always answer them yourself!
real talk: if you just open up the OG and flip through it, you'll be able to answer almost every question of this kind—and, along the way, you'll learn much more than if someone on a forum just tells you the answers.

e.g., if you flipped through the 2016 OG you'd quickly find the following:
• diagnostic #46 (= a sentence within a larger sentence, but, still, exactly the sort of thing you're asking about)
• SC #26
... among others.

hello Ron,
All of the following are correct, right?

Apples are more healthy to eat than grapes
Apples are more healthy to eat than grapes are.
Apples are more healthy to eat than are grapes

Jogging is more healthy exercise for individuals than walking is
Jogging is more healthy exercise for individuals than is walking
Jogging is more healthy exercise for individuals than walking

Thanks in anticipation
