Is ABCD Square?

Q: Is quadrilateral ABCD Square?

I. Angle B and Angle C are right angles.

II. AB=BC=CD

Please provide and explanation!

1 can indicate a rectangle or a square.
2 can indicate a rhombus or a square.
1 and 2 indicates a square. Ans is C.

The source of the question is the GMAT prep.

Should we also consider "complex" or "self intersecting" quadrilateral in Q like this? Q says "Is quadrilateral ABCD Square?"

I forgot to put the "quadrilateral" word in the question.

please ask a more specific question first -- it's not fair to ask "please explain this whole problem".
what do you already understand? what don't you understand? etc.

(on this problem, you should be able to investigate the combination of the two statements fairly thoroughly just by drawing out sample pictures.)

I was just wondering does the complex quadrilateral satisfies the above condition.

I don't know how to insert the pic. I am talking about the top two quadrilateral in the pics in the following URL.

I am very confused on what that can refer to. In the question, should it be immediate noun (imagination) or can it be a noun little further (interplay)?

You mentioned as a reply to the solution for this question that the explanation is not entirely correct.

Based on statement 1, the quad. could be any quad with two angles as 90 degrees. Its not necessarily a rectangle or a square. Is there something else wrong with this explanation.

based on 2, it could be a rhombus or a square

Also, I have never till date come across any question in OG or gmat prep or other books for GMAT which involves complex quad. Hope there is a good reason for it. :) Is this field tested in GMAT?

nah, that's the right idea, as long as you realize that the two right angles are consecutive angles of the quadrilateral.

based on 2, it could be a rhombus or a square


... or lots of other quadrilateral shapes with three congruent sides. e.g., could be an isosceles trapezoid (whose top base has the same length as the legs) ... or could be a random non-special quadrilateral that just happens to have three congruent sides.

you are not going to have polygons that cross themselves.
