by Archer Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:49 pm

Hi!

Is >700 score in GMAT enough without any work experience, provided a person has led a national level revolution in his/her country, has written research papers to demonstrate analytical ability, has developed some formulae & has undertaken some projects as a part of a team???

Plz reply. Thanx in advance!

A GMAT score alone will never get you into any school. The GMAT score is used more to keep people out (if it's too low). If the score is "good enough" for that school, then they will use other parts of your application to make the actual decision. At many of the top schools, there are typically many more applicants with "good enough" GMAT scores than they could admit in a single year.

Re: work experience, some people with unusual or atypical backgrounds are admitted, yes. They typically won't take people who are coming right out of undergrad, but they will take people who have leadership experience that may not have been strictly business or work experience. I know several professional athletes who have gone on to business school, for example.

I can't gauge what you're describing without more detail (and I'm not an admissions expert anyway), but you may be able to make a case, yes. I'd suggest that you talk to some admissions consultants: give them more detail and ask them what they think.

We have a thread on the forums here called "ask an admissions consultant." If you're one of our students, you also have access to a free half-hour consultation with an admissions consultant from MBAMission (log into your student center for details or contact our office). Those would be good places to start!
