Inequality Drill sheet Problem 40

by ashishv Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:59 am

Inequality Drill sheet -
Problem 40If the rate of data transfer, r, over a particular network is directly
proportional to the bandwidth, b, and inversely proportional to the square of
the number of networked computers, n, then what is the resulting rate of data
transfer if the bandwidth is quadrupled and the number of networked
computers is more than tripled?

In the solution, relationship is given as r = kxb/nsquare but this isn't true... Aren't these two are two different equations r=kb and r=m/nsquare?

Please read (and follow!) the forum guidelines before posting.

This folder is only for general strategy questions, not content or specific test problems. Check out the content / problem folders and post in the relevant folder depending upon the source of the problem you want to post (and make sure to follow the rules about banned sources). If you are a course student, you can also ask about other problems or issues before or after class.

In this case, if the problem you're referring to is from MGMAT materials, post in the MGMAT Non-CAT folder. If it is not from MGMAT (or GMATPrep, which this obviously isn't), then post in the General Quant folder.

Quick answer: you can combine the information into one equation when you're told that something is directly proportional to one thing and inversely proportional to another.
