Increase the scores considerably

by anushree872003 Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:38 am

Hi,

I am planning to write GMAT in 5 weeks. Till now I have put in roughly 1 month of preparation with some breaks in between.

I am not able to improve my scores at all after this preparation. I have completed the OG11 edition and right now I am revisiting the Sentence Correction problems in QG and judging whether I am able to solve the question I got wrong the first time.
During the QG guide studying I had noticed that I was invariably able to get 3/5 correct in RCs / passage and got 7/10 correct in Critical reasoning.

But lately on the tests i am giving I am not doing so well with the RC and CR accuracy. Also, my Quant accuracy is also not that good, specially Data sufficiency, this is usually because of careless mistakes.
Also, i have noticed that I am usually left with 15min or more in both the sections.
On the tests I am getting 26 questions correct in Quant and 26 correct in verbal.

How bad do you thin this is? I know this not the level I want to be 5 weeks before the test.

I want to apply for the Round 1 and my target score is not less than 700.

Do you think it is doable?

I am regular reader of books and hence i thought my accuracy will be better in RC. Please suggest me ways in which I can reach my target. I am taking 4 weeks off to just prepare for the exam so I can put in all the effort and time required to reach the 700 mark.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards
A. Gupta

You haven't told me your current scoring level, so I don't know how far you are right now from 700. I can't tell whether 4 weeks is a reasonable timeframe. Please give us the data on your practice tests.

Please also tell us whether the tests were taken under 100% official conditions, including the essays and length of breaks.

In terms of your performance, use the below article to analyze your most recent MGMAT test, then come back here and share that analysis with us:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

You also mention finishing both sections very early; read this article and start practicing the principles described:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... anagement/

On the tests I am getting 26 questions correct in Quant and 26 correct in verbal.

The test is not scored based upon percentage correct. Read the Scoring section of our free e-book The GMAT Uncovered Guide in order to understand the scoring better. This will be very valuable in helping you to take the test in the best way. (If you have an account with us, the Uncovered guide is already in there!)
