In What Order Should We Use the Books?

by ryancsmith91 Thu May 10, 2012 9:43 pm

Hi,
I just ordered the complete prep set and I was just wondering how people have been self studying with the books. Do you prefer to go all the way through the Manhattan Materials, then go through the Official Guide? Or, alternatively, do you prefer to focus on a particular topic *ex. Algebra, Geometry, Fractions* and do problems of that type in Manhattan Guides and the Official Guide simultaneously? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Do a mix. When studying a particular chapter or book, you do want to do *some* OG problems (OG = Official Guide). But not all - you also want to save some for later.

So, say you're doing the Number Properties book. You read a chapter, you do the problems in the end of the chapter (printed in the NP book). Then you go try a couple of OG problems. Then you keep going chapter by chapter. Then you finish the book and go back to do a mix of OG problems from ALL of the chapters together (so that you're starting to learn to figure out what specific kind of problem a new problem is).

Then, later, after you've finished 2 books, 3 books, etc, you're going to start doing mixed sets of problems from ALL of the previous books. (Because the real test isn't going to tell you, hey, I'm about to give you a divisibility problem! :)
