Hi MGMAT Experts,

I completely agree E is the best answer among given answer choices. I only have one question regarding the past perfect tense in choice E- "moisture EXHALED by tourist HAD RAISED the humidity" somehow leads me to think HAD RAISED took place before EXHALED.

As Ron would say, OA can never be wrong. So does this imply that "exhaled" is just part of a modifier that modifies "moisture". So "exhaled" in this question doesn't have any tense attribute?

Ron and other MGMAT experts could you chime in?

One question is using verb-ing and the other is a helping verb.

So this rule of works only if it's modifier but not for verbs/helping verbs?

Sorry the question wasn't clear.

In late 1997,the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors for cleaning and repairing due to moisture exhaled by tourists,which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing and fungus was growing in the walls.

D)because of moisture that was exhaled by tourists raising the humidity within them to levels so high as to make the salt from the stone crystallize.

can i eliminate (D) because "raising the humidity" incorrectly modify "tourists" ?

Can you tell me how come in option D (by tourists) is not a essential modifier, whereby 'raising the humidity' is not appropriately modifying 'moisture exhaled'?

I thought we needed to know who created the moisture, without that we would be guessing 'who or from where this moisture came'
