Improve score from 660 to 710

by SmitaR338 Tue Aug 18, 2015 2:00 am

Hi,

I recently took up the GMAT after studying for 3 months. I scored 660 Total (6 AWA, 3 IR, 44 Q, 36 V). I plan to take up the exam aain and improve my score to 710. Please guide me on how I can achieve this score? Mentioned below are the areas that I struggled with during my first GMAT.

1. I managed time well. I followed the tactics mentioned in MGMAT Book 1 and that helped me stay in track with time.
2. I consistently scored 610 in all my practice mocks - MGMAT, Official GMAT CAT and 800 Score CAT. I would score 3 in IR and 44-46 in Quant but my Verbal score was always below 30. I managed to break the barrier in Verbal and scored 36. But, I am not sure how I can score higher in Verbal in my next attempt.
3. My Quant and IR scores were in line with my mock test scores. Please help me understand how to improve both.

Let me know if you need any information. I plan to take up MS in MIS, hence a score of 710 would be a great score to take up this course.

Thanks.

Great job! I know you want an even higher score, but you've come a long way already - I hope you celebrated!

I do need some more information from you in order to advise you. First, what study resources do you have? You mentioned one of our books - do you have all of our books? Have you been doing our Interact guided self-study program or just the books? Do you have the OGs? Do you have other resources?

Next, read these two articles:
http://tinyurl.com/executivereasoning
http://tinyurl.com/2ndlevelofgmat

Think about how what you've been doing does and doesn't match up with that and how you may need to change your approach accordingly.

Then, use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CATs (this should take you a minimum of 1 hour):
http://tinyurl.com/analyzeyourcats

Based on all of that, figure out your strengths and weaknesses as well as any ideas you have for what you think you should do. Then come back here and tell us; we'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Your analysis should include a discussion of your buckets - you'll understand what that means when you read the last article. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)
