Improve of score and RC

by vivekkapoor73 Tue Nov 19, 2013 4:02 am

Hi Instructors,
I have certain questions regarding the score pattern. I have given both GMAT prep test. My GMAT score is 630 in both prep. I am not able to break the barrier of 26-28 in verbal. But What I see If I am correcting more questions also, I am not able to score high. Situation of MY GMAT Prep 1 630( Q 49, V 25, SC 7(Correct)/16,CR 9/11, RC 4/13)Total 20 Correct
2 GMAT Prep 2 630( Q 48, V 28, SC 13(Correct)/17,CR 6/11, RC 5/11)Total 24 Correct
When I got more questions correct, I am not able to increase my overall GMAT score. I dont know where I am lacking.

Apart from this, I feel I am worst at RC. Skimming technique in RC doesnt work for me. If i read RC in detail I run out of time. Moreover accuracy leve in RC works in between 50 to 60% if i read in detail or else by skimming it goes till 30%
Please suggest how to improve in RC?

Thanks

The score isn't based on percentage correct. It would be beneficial for you to learn more about how the scoring works.

Read this:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/

Then read the Scoring section of our free e-book The GMAT Uncovered Guide. (One section gets pretty technical - you can skip that section and just learn the overview if you prefer.)

For RC, it's going to be important to learn how to distinguish between what you should read / pay attention to and what you should ignore or gloss over. When most people first try to "skim," they do so incorrectly - they try to just read everything really fast, but that doesn't work.

Nobody has time to read ALL of the detail carefully, not even native speakers. The trick is to be able to tell what is detail, so that you can skim over only that - but you're still paying careful attention to all of the Big Ideas.

Take a look at this:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... rehension/

If you have access to our OG Archer program, you can watch videos for the last two RC passages in OG13 - those show how someone might use this What To Read AND What Not To Read technique. I'm also in the midst of shooting the videos for the Brain + Metabolic Processes passage in OG13 (I'm not sure what page it's on - just flip through till you find it). That should be done and posted within about a week.
