Impact of Poor Timing - Missing the Last 6 Questions?

by shaunmaurer Sat Aug 03, 2013 3:51 am

Hello,

Just took my first GMAT prep and scored a 650 (41Q, 38V). The problem is I became crunched for time and rushed and guessed the last 7 problems in quant and missed 6 of 7. Had the same issue in verbal, missed last 5 in a row.

How impact is missing the last 6 of 7? For some reason I feel that had I implemented better timing I would be pretty close to the magical 700.

Any thoughts?

For anyone having the same question in that I did above:

Just took second GMAT prep with better timing on Quant

Result: 680 44Q 38V

I would say the impact of missing the last 6 question in a row is anywhere from 20-50 points!

Still had some issues with verbal timing and was crunched at the end a little. Felt rushed to the end of quant, although I wasn't, it was just the first time in which I actually had 2 min per question at the end! A much better way to take the exam.

Not until now have I actually grasped the concept of how to take the test. The MGMAT blog post below really helped me!

It definitely brought your score down. Enough that you would have hit 700 otherwise? No way to tell for sure, but you would've been closer at the least.

Ah, and now I'm reading your second post. Love it! :)
