If 2^x - 2^(x-2) = 3(2^13), what is the value of x?

The following problem can be found in GMAT Prep. My apologies if this problem is already listed in the forum.

If 2^x - 2^(x-2) = 3(2^13), what is the value of x?

a) 9
b) 11
c) 13
d) 15 (correct answer)
e) 17

Can someone explain this? Many thanks!

By the way, you can quite easily find existing threads by just going to google and typing "site:manhattangmat.com", followed by the exact question you wrote here.

I literally cut and pasted it and boom! two seconds.
