by info123talk Sat Feb 01, 2014 11:08 am

Hi,

It might be off the topic.. but just want to know.. "It is shame that you found.." is this used as idiom meaning regret? How frequently this construction is used?

I would say that the idiom is "It is A shame that...". You can include anything after the word "that", but it doesn't exactly mean regret- it's more of a "that's too bad" sort of expression.

As for how frequently it's used, there's no place I can point you towards about how common any idiom is used. Any idiom you learn is unlikely to be on the GMAT, but I wouldn't say that this idiom is particularly rare in common, spoken English.

Thanks Joe for your response. So, is it used in offending way or just casually?

I'm not sure how the question is relevant to the GMAT, but this expression could be used to offend but does not have to.
