I just retook the GMAT.....

...and scored a 590 :( When I took it 4 months ago I scored a 640.

I want to hide under a rock.

Should I even try to retake the test?

Depends on a lot of things. Can you give us more information about how things went on the test? As much detail as possible.

I took the course 9 week. I got the 45 minture assessment after the course. I was told my score should be around 700. I took the test the first time and scored 640 (49Q and 28V...i think it was around a 28). Since then I've studied a lot....I especially focused on the Verbal since I didn't score well on that portion of the test. I retook the test and scored 590 40Q/31V. The funny thing is that the second time around the questions seemed more difficult...I thought maybe I was doing better than last time.

My undergrad GPA wasn't stellar (2.7). Since then I went back to get my masters and significantly improved my GPA (3.625). I was hoping to get a high score on the GMAT to offset my low undergrad GPA.

I'm not sure what to do now. Should I just go ahead and apply to schools or should I try again and retake the test?

How have you done on other standardized tests in the past (eg, SAT)? Did you do about as expected given your GPA or did you tend to underperform (or overperform)? Do you have any kind of history of getting very nervous in such situations and having it impact your score?

Also, did you run out of time on the test in either section? If so, on how many questions did you have to rush (defined as doing a question 30-60 seconds faster than you would prefer)? On how many did you have to make outright guesses? Did you leave any blank?

You did lift your verbal a bit on your 2nd test but your math dropped quite a bit. If you had been able to maintain your math score, you likely would have been around 660-670. The biggest reason scores drop that much usually has to do with timing - so let me know on the above. Also, let me know anything else you remember, good and bad, about the most recent test.
