How to study verbal?

by stella.se Tue Jun 26, 2012 8:12 am

Dear MGMAT members,

I attempted three times of GMAT.

But I cannot figure out why I got exactly same verbal score "25" in all three exams..

Actually, I'm not native speaker.
I think my English is not good enough to beat GMAT 700+
but I have tried to beat GMAT since January.

I have read MGMAT sentence correction guide and OG12, OG13, and Verbal review 2nd edition. However, I could not fully understand some tough questions in OG and VR.

Please, give me some advices to solve verbal score problem.

It's possible that you will need some additional help in order to crack the verbal section of the GMAT - it's very tough to take a test in your non-native language. I admire you for persevering! I can't imagine taking a test like the GMAT in French (the language that I'm learning now).

Have you looked at the admissions requirements of the schools to which you plan to apply? If you did your schooling in a language other than English, then the schools may require you to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an equivalent exam. If so, I would recommend studying for and taking the TOEFL first, and then coming back to the GMAT verbal. The TOEFL prep will help you with your GMAT prep.

Next, you may need to take a course or work with a tutor. A course is much less expensive than working with a tutor, but you will also have to go at the pace of the class, so you want to try to find a class that caters to non-native speakers or is able to place you with other people who are also struggling with the verbal. Working with a tutor is much more expensive, but you can then work at the pace you need.
