Homework Priorities vs Practice Exam

by chandlerquiz Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:42 pm

Do you reccomend taking a practice test vs the homework for week one if I have not had the chance to do either? My second class is meeting online on Sunday and this week has been busier than I anticipated. I realize that I will be a little behind regardless but was curious what you would recommend? I am hoping to take the GMAT this summer.

If you aren't taking the test until this summer, then you can afford to delay some of your practice tests on the syllabus, but I would still take your first practice test sometime before class 3. Taking the test allows you to figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are, and that will help you to prioritize throughout the entire course.

If necessary, skip the essays; that cuts the practice test time to about 2.5 hours. (But as time goes on, do the essays with future practice tests; you need to practice mental stamina, too!)

So, before Sunday, make sure to read the chapters of your number properties guide (but skip the material labeled "advanced" - save that for later) and try a few of the problems at the end of the chapter. If you also have time to take the test, great. If not, do that next week - but make sure to do it next week!

Also, do make sure to talk to your teacher; s/he will be happy to advise you and, as the class goes on, s/he will be the best person to advise you b/c the teacher will see your performance in class and get to know your strengths and weaknesses. Good luck!
