Re: Help needed in regards to my GMAT preparation

I just completed taking MGMAT CAT 2A.

I scored 730 (Q 46, V 44).

I mimicked exam conditions by taking the essays too. Although, I paused for a brief 30 seconds during an interruption.

In quant, I made 9 mistakes out of the last last 11. I had exactly 11 minutes for those questions. I used up more time (> 3 minutes) for 6 questions out of the first 15. So, I guess I need to recognize these questions.

In verbal, 2 passages were repeated but I couldn't recollect the answers. So, I attacked them as I would have done any other question. Among the rest, around 50% were repeated but I couldn't remember the answers. So, I'm assuming the inflation would be around 20-30 for recognizing question patterns/questions from previous tests. I say 20-30 because most of the questions felt like new except for a vague recollection of the terms.

Is my analysis right? I will book the test today to take it in the next 3-4 days. Hope it goes well.

Yes - your score could have been even better on quant if you'd balanced your time better! Let go of those "way too long" questions faster!

It's good that you couldn't remember the answers. The familiarity, though, likely did cause some inflation - there were probably some things that you understood faster or better because of that familiarity. I can't, unfortunately, estimate how much that would inflate your score, but certainly the scoring looks good overall. Whether it's still above 700 or in the high 600s somewhere, I can't tell for sure.

So you'll have to make the call, but I don't think you're too far off, no. Good luck!

Re: Help needed in regards to my GMAT preparation

My journey began on June 11, 2010. Eight months of hard work finally paid off. Scored 710 (Q49, V 39). However, I was expecting around 670 after the exam but the score surprised me. Few essays felt familiar. But your suggestions and articles seriously pulled the rabbit out of the bag!!! One month back I was off by 40-50 points from my goal of 700. But just reviewing the OG-12 problems and MGMAT CATs pulled my score a lot further than expected. Thanks a lot. I hope this article and my experiences till now will be useful to others. I wish I can change the title of this article to 'MGMAT works' instead of 'Help needed..'. I'm grateful for the help and cooperation I received from you all. Do ping me if you need any feedback at any time. You are the best!!!

That's awesome!! I'm really happy for you - congratulations! I hope you celebrated after. :)

If you do want to give us a recommendation, you can go do so here:
http://reviews.beatthegmat.com/

This site is the best of the review sites because they actually verify that you are who you say you are - so people know the reviews are coming from real students. But this is truly only if you want to - I'm only mentioning it because you said something. We don't go trolling around for reviews. ;)

So exciting! Well, now on to applications, right? Good luck - let us know how it goes!

Ya it felt great to be at the other end.. It was only a dream till yesterday and now I'm living in it... I could celebrate only inside me as I was still in the dream... ;)

I'd love to give a recommendation on my progress from 580 to 710 w/ the help of MGMAT..

Yes! guess the job's just half done!!! Now that I have license to apply to any university makes the job much tougher!! But will give it my best. This score seriously gave me a new confidence. Thanks again.

By the way! Can you explain why few 710 scores have a split of (Q49, V 37-39). Few of my friends brought this up thinking I should have got a higher score from my higher Verbal split.

Multiple sub-scores (the two-digit scores) will lead to the same overall (3-digit) score. It isn't the case that each unique pair of 2-digit scores will lead to its own unique 3-digit score.

Good luck with apps!
