Help!! Can't break the 610 Barrier

by dlozano Sun Nov 10, 2013 1:38 pm

Dear Friends at Manhattan I am very frustrated after a really hard work I have not been able to break the 610 barrier. It is so frustrating that I am even becoming consistent at having that score.

Last year I tried the GMAT 2 times the first try implied an score of 560 and the second effort generated a 610.

4 months ago I decided to retake the GMAT and enrolled in MGMAT 9 week class. I even read every chapter on the math and verbal fundamentals and did all the exercises and drills. However, my cats consistently have been around the 610 mark.

This has been really frustrating after so much effort (around 5 hours of daily study waking up at 4 am every day).

On my private tutoring session with Tony C. I was advised to focus on RC and SC problems of th OG. I did this for this last week, however my cat continues to generate a 610 score.

What should I do? After so much study and spending so much money my score is not going up on my cats and I have my exam scheduled for the 25th of november.

Please help me! I really dream of scoring higher on the GMAT and I still believe that with the help of MGMAT I can succeed

These are the files that show my situation:

I'm sorry you're struggling so much with the test. I know it's really frustrating.

First, your test date is in 2 weeks. Your practice scores aren't where you'd like them to be and you're not sure why. Given that, you may need to consider postponing your test. You can do so for only a $50 fee as long as you make the change more than a week before your test date, so think about that.

Second, you said that you took our course. Did you sign up for your Post-Course Assessment (PCA)? You mention working with Tony - was that for your PCA? (You mention meeting with him just once, which sounds like the 30-minute PCA.)

You practiced what he recommended for a week - that's great but not likely enough to make any kind of significant difference in your score. Scores don't typically change much in one week.

What we need to do is dive into your test data and figure out what's going on. I know you posted it all BUT I'm not going to do all of the analysis for you. :) I'm going to teach you how to do it yourself (that's necessary in order to keep getting better!)

Here's what you do. First, read this (right now):
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/

Are you actually taking the test that way? Or are you still using the old school mindset, trying to get everything right? The vast majority of people who study and study but don't improve are still using the old school mindset.

Next, read this (right now):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... -the-gmat/

Are you studying in this way?

Next, use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s) while keeping in mind wha tyou read above:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Figure out what you think you should do based on that analysis (and the earlier articles). Then come back here and tell us; we'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further.

(Note: you've already given us the data - we don't want the data! We want your analysis. Try to figure out what's going on yourself - then we'll tell you whether you're on the right track. You've got to learn to do this or you won't be able to keep getting better as you keep studying on your own.)
