Hey Sophia,

I took the GMAT at that site in October. They check you in at the front. You put your things in a locker. They fingerprint you. They go over the rules, give you your laminated sheets and marker and walk you into the computer room and begin the test.

When you want to take a break, you have to raise your hand. Someone is always sitting at a booth with a glass window where they can see everyone, so they should see you when you raise your hand. Sometimes they are not watching the test takers, so it can take a minute or two before they notice you.

Aside from that, I'm not sure what else to tell you. It is pretty much what you would expect if you read a description of a test taking center. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for ur response. I wish to know some things like (they might sound dumb and stupid questions :-)):-

1- can we visit dunlap test center in advance to check it out?
2- room temp in the actual test room that they maintain? i mean....is it v cool or comfortable? do we need to put any thin jacket etc? can we ask them to change the temp etc?
3- other misc. stuff like do they give headphones, earplugs or both? can we get our own set?
4- can we ask them for a PC of our choice in case there r other pc's available :-)

thanks and regards,

Hi Sophia,

Hope these answers help.

1- can we visit dunlap test center in advance to check it out?
I'm not sure if you can, but I don't see why not. Maybe just go there and tell them you wanted to check out the test center. If you're not allowed, then they'll probably just tell you to leave. I would call the test center and ask them.

2- room temp in the actual test room that they maintain? i mean....is it v cool or comfortable? do we need to put any thin jacket etc? can we ask them to change the temp etc?
From what I remember it wasn't cold or hot, just average room temp. Bring a long shirt you can wear over a short one. If you find you don't need it, you can put it in the locker with the rest of your things.

3- other misc. stuff like do they give headphones, earplugs or both? can we get our own set?
They give ear plugs. I don't think they offered head phones, but I could be wrong. I'd call them and ask.

4- can we ask them for a PC of our choice in case there r other pc's available :-)
I don't think so. They will seat you at the next available PC. For example, if there are 8 PCs, the first person gets PC #1 and so on.

Good luck.

Thanks for helping out a fellow student, guest. Earplugs are standard at the test centers; headphones are not for the GMAT. (If you see someone with headphones, it's because s/he is taking a test that has an audio component - the company that runs the centers gives all kinds of tests.)

Sophia, there's nothing preventing you from walking into the front area of any center to check things out, but they may not allow you any further than that. They certainly won't allow you to walk into the testing room because they don't want you to disrupt the people who are taking their tests.

Also, I'm pretty sure that they would only accommodate a request to move from your assigned pc station if there's something wrong at the assigned station. If you don't want to use that station for some reason, there's actually a decent amount of work to get another station up and running for the GMAT, so they can't just move you around easily. (Again, they give all kinds of different tests there, not just the GMAT.)
