GMATPrep CAT Algorithm

by kramacha1979 Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:22 am

I know that the Actual GMAT has around 10 experimental questions. Does the GMATPrep also gives us experimental questions ?

The reason I am asking is I know both the GMAT and the Gmatprep use the same algorithm and obviously curious to know the scoring patterns if one has exp questions and the other doesn't

I know that GMATPrep doesn't give experimentals in the true sense - that is, the test doesn't include unrated questions that need to be tested before being given to the general testing population. All of the GMATPrep questions are previously-used, already-tested questions.

But I don't know for sure whether they arbitrarily assign an "experimental" designation to some number of them and don't count them, or whether they have adjusted the algorithm somehow and count everything. I'll ask our algorithm guy whether he knows!

Just heard from the main office. We don't know for sure, but they guess that GMATPrep does count every question. It's an easy change to the software (to make everything count instead), and that actually does improve the quality of the results.
