GMAT - Three Attempts - Low Score

by abhiabhee Sun Oct 17, 2010 1:52 am

Hi,

I have given GMAT for three times now. The Score breakup are -

1st Test - 650 (V28, Q50)
2nd Test - 660 (V28, Q51)
3rd Test - 650 (V30, Q49)

I have referred the MGMAT SC, RC & CR all through out my preparation. Even during the 5 CAT tests I was scoring 720+ each time under full test conditions. I have almost read all the good books -
OG 12th Edition
OG Verbal 12 Edition
Kaplan - 800, Verbal & Comprehensive
Manhattan - Guides

Actual GMAT Prep Tests -
GMAT Prep 1 - 680 (taken 1 month before the test)
GMAT Prep 2 - 730 (taken 2 days before the test)

Please advise what needs to be done. I want to apply to the IVy B Schools.

We answer questions in this folder every 3 to 5 business days. The last day I was on was the 15th, 3 business days ago and the day before you first posted. We do answer every single question, but we do not answer every day.

Also, FYI, please do not "bump" your own posts. We answer in order from oldest post first, and the date of the post is the date of the LAST post in that thread. You may wait longer for a reply if you "bump" your post with a new (and later-dated) response.

Please provide us with your quant and verbal breakdowns for your most recent practice tests. Please also confirm that you took the tests under 100% official conditions including the essays, the number and duration of the breaks, and even things like not having anything to eat or drink except on the breaks.

I'm guessing, from what you wrote, that your verbal score was more responsible for the overall drop in score compared to your practice tests, simply because your quant score was very high on all three tests. But I'd like to confirm that guess with you.

Also, you don't mention your goal score; please tell us what that is.

You can use the below article to analyze your test experience and try to determine possible reasons why your official scores aren't matching your practice test scores:

http://www.beatthegmat.com/a/2009/10/26 ... went-wrong

Once you've done that analysis, please come back here and share what you've learned. We'll help you figure out what to do about it.

Also, in terms of specific advice about different question types, content areas, or timing, please do the analysis described in this article on the most recent MGMAT test taken under official conditions:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/articles/e ... -part1.cfm

Again, come back here and let us know what you discover and we'll help you come up with a plan!
