This is my first post here, so please bear with me.
I am going through book 2- Algebra, from the sixth series of GMAT review books and am particularly baffled by one question.
I am referring to Chapter 9, page 134, #10- please note that ">=" is "greater than or equal to" but I am not sure how to get keyboard to type that.
If 4x - 12 >= x + 9, which of the following must be true?
a) x > 6 b) x < 7 c) x > 7 d) x > 8 e) x < 8
Addition and subtraction along with variable isolation, i found x>=7, and see where both C and D are correct because any value for X would be greater than 7 and therefore valie. If you chose any value greater than 7, preferably a non-integer, the inequality holds.
However, the answer key and associated explanation indicate that A is the correct answer. If it said any integer greater than 6 it would make sense, but if you pick x=6.1 than the inequality is no longer valid.
I am missing something here? or is the point of the question lost on me because of the errors?
