GMAT Prep Square root DS Question

by eorigbo Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:25 pm

Hello,
This is a question from GMAT Prep:

Is n > 6?
1) √n > 2.5
2) n > √37

The official answer is D. I think it should be A since n > +/- √37 from statement 2.

Please help me understand. I suspect I must be missing something.

Thanks.

Sure, basically please know that anytime you take a square root on the GMAT that you only need to consider the positive value. That is a stone cold rule on the GMAT. So the square root of 37 is only the positive square root of 37. I hope that this helps!
