What fraction of this year's graduating students at a certain college are males?

a) Of this year's graduating students, 33 % of the males and 20% of the females transfered from another college.

b) Of this years's graudating students, 25 % of transfered from another college.

Statement 1 is not suffichent because it does not tell us anything about the total current student body. It only gives us percentage of male & females who were transfered

Statement 2 is not suffichent either. it just tells us how many students transfered.

Statment 1 & 2 are suffichent. from statment 2 we know how many students transfered (Male & Female) and from statment 1 we know how many males are transfered students. this information will give us the fraction of Males. Notice we don't have to calculate the acutal number of males just the fraction.

I think OA should be "C". Please let me know if i am not correct.

Answer should be C.

If the total no. of students in the college is X and the no. of males is M, then we can write the given information using both A and B options as -

.25 X = .33 M + .20 (X-M)

From here we can find the fraction of males i.e. M/X.

Did you guys try to really solve the value for M/F or just guessed the answer C ?

Say 100 students graduated this year which had M males and F females

1) says - 33% of M and 20% of F transferred from another college.
2) 25 students out of the 100 transferred from another college.

so (33/100)of(M) + (20/100)of(F)=25

How can we get the M/F value from these ? We need to have some more information....
