GMAT estimator of beatthegmat.com

by stockish24 Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:08 pm

Hello Guys
I have just taken Kaplan test and got 560. My question is:-
Is the GMAT score estimator (from www.beatthegmat.com) which kind of provides GMAT estimate score you would get if you plugged in different practice test scores.

With Kaplan 1st test : 560 (Q42,V27) and 'performance under pressure' set to above average and not 'great' ; I am getting GMAT Estimate score as 670.

Earlier few days back, I took MGMAT which was my first one, I got 520 (Q42,V20). Using the estimator, I got GMAT Estimate score to be 550.

There is a jump of +110 points within few days. I am kind of suspecting this estimator.

Probably I need to work on Verbal more and little on Q.

1) How credible has this been estimator been for you all? Please, Please let me know. This will boost my confidence if I am in 650+ range. My target GMAT is 760.

Thank you very much,

I've never heard of this score estimator. The link you included went to BTG's home page, and there was nothing there called a "GMAT Score Estimator." So I don't know what this is.

I'm pretty skeptical myself, though

First, it's probably something that someone built with a small number of data points. You'd need hundreds of data points to do something like this.

Second, the result should be a score range, not a single score - there's no way to say that the estimate corresponds to one single score. At least, not in a statistically valid way. :)
