gmat educated guesing+timing strategy

by adhithya2007 Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:07 pm

hi,my question is related to educated guessing on the Gmat.
1)how does one make an educated guess on PS sums.We can atleast eliminate some choices in ds,rc,cr,sc but what about PS.
2)A very typical question,do the first few questions in each section count more than others,So should I spend more time on the initial questions.
3)similarly,do you guys make educated guesses in particular question bands asin 15-30 etc.
4)Does RC have higher weightage over CR and SC(I read a post by talk2vij where he insists so)

Sorry for posting so many questions at once,it is just that iam planning to take a few tests this week and wanna have a clear head before taking them
Thank a lot

Good questions:

1) educated guessing on quant:

2) No, the earlier questions are not worth more; that's a myth. If you'd like to know more about the scoring (and I highly recommend it), read the Scoring section of our free e-book The GMAT Uncovered Guide (you can find it in your student center).

3) No, not based on the location at all. Educated guessing is based upon simply not knowing how to get to the right answer on a particular question; if I don't know, I try to make an educated guess.

Take a look at this article:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... anagement/

I'd read that time management article first, then look at the educated guessing article I linked above.

4) No single question is weighted above any other single question, and no question type is weighted above any other question type. In short, no. :)
