GMAT 670 (Q41 V41)

by cjp713 Fri Aug 07, 2009 1:08 am

I just took the GMAT today and scored 670 (Q41 V41). Although my scores aren't disastrous, I know they're below the average score at my top choice, Harvard. Still, I know that there are students there who scored at my level, so I wonder if I have enough factors that will benefit me in the "whole person" assessment. I graduated from George Washington U with a 3.8 GPA (poli sci major), and since graduation I've been a commissioned Navy Officer. I have been on three overseas deployments and will have plenty of "leadership experiences" to share in essays, recommendations, etc.

Any thoughts on my prospects? I'm not sure I have time at this point to re-take the test given how much time the applications will take to complete.

Thank you for the info!

Nice job! I know you were hoping to score a bit higher, but 670 is still a great score - and, as you said, they accept people who score at and below that level, so it's really more about the rest of your application at this point.

I think you do have something of an unusual background for an aspiring MBA student, but I'm actually not the best person to ask here, as my area of expertise is the GMAT. So, I'd recommend two things:
1) Post your question in the "ask an admissions consultant" thread on this site and see what they think. They may want more detail on your background, FYI.
2) Most admissions consulting services offer a 30-minute free consultation (because, yes, they're hoping you will sign up!). You don't have to though - you can just take advantage of that free offer and ask them what they think about your situation!
