Gerund Question

by raj1219 Tue Sep 02, 2014 2:46 pm

Hi,

I have a question while referring the MGMAT SC book.

1) In the MGMAT SC Book, the below is given as wrong:
The rebels demanded the withdrawal of government forces from disputed regions and releasing certain political Prisoners.

2) Right :
The rebels demanded the withdrawal of government forces from disputed regions and the release of certain political Prisoners.

3)My question is with the below, Is this correct ? :
The rebels demanded the withdrawal of government forces from disputed regions and released certain political Prisoners.

Please clarify if # 3 is correct.

Thank you,
Raj

It is structurally correct because "released" is parallel to "demanded"; however, this version totally alters the intended meaning, namely that the rebels demanded two things. Your version suggests that the rebels released the prisoners instead of demanding their release.
